So, in the house we live in, its about 30-40 years old, so I don’t expect it to have too many problems, especially since it was updated about 10 yrs ago at least? But I am just guessing that.
Anyways, when we moved into this place in September, I began work basically the same day we moved in. I couldn’t unpack or do anything til I got home from work, because having Dave do it, yeah that probably wouldn’t be the best idea.
My friend are renting the whole house, and had, had a day care running in the basement but decided to discontinue the day care for whatever reason, so they told us we could rent it out from them for $650/month and that they’d take care of utilities and cable/internet, and all that jazz. We were like SWEET! The place is bigger, then our last place, but a bit more expensive, but we weren’t paying utilities, so it basically all evened out. Our last place was a 2 bedroom, hole in the wall, but we paid less than 400 bucks a month, and not that much in utilities.
So that first couple weeks we lived here, it STANK!!! Why? Oh because it flooded down here multiple times. The water heater would just go crazy basically, and it got into our office, narrowly missing all of my scrapbooking goods and all the other stuff. It was about 2-3 weeks of constant flooding and having it smell like crap. They finally figured it out, and I was so grateful for it, but for a while i’d still have trouble sleeping thinking it would explode…
Then about a month after that got fixed, I notice water coming from the same area, but thru another area. Right the hallway wall!!!! our game shelf was right next to it, so I was worried that our hundreds of dollars of games were going to get ruined. Dave acted fast, turned the water off, and got it fixed. Turns out it was a simple issue, and it hasn’t happened again, thankfully!!!
We really hoped that would be the end of it. Boy were we wrong!!!
About a month or so later, I walk into the bathroom, same place where the water heater closet is, and its all wet…my rugs are soaked, oh and the toilet is completely full and water is flowing out of it…I had to buy all new rugs, cause they just stank. So much for my black and green bathroom…I just went all black with the new ones. And we had bought new ones when we moved in too!!!
Fast forward to about a week ago…Dave is playing Xbox in the front room, like he does every night, and he hears dripping. Thinking it was just the sink or something, he let it go a few minutes, then went to check on it. Yeah it was dripping from the ceiling. The ceiling in OUR KITCHEN, right where we make food. What is dripping? URINE, toilet water, just absolutely disgusting smell, and stuff coming thru the ceiling. Dave texted the people upstairs and asked them to come check it out, and try and figure out what was going on, and he refused so Dave was mad, of course, when I heard about it, I was furious!!! The portion upstairs got fixed, but not down here, so we’ve been stuck eating out for a few a week, cause i refuse to eat where urine is.
So yesterday, I went into the office to do something on the computer (check out my new zune), and I look at one of the windows, and notice that its pretty wet, but didn’t think much of it…so I turned on the computer and everything. Then I had to get something off of Dave’s desk. The airport (for the wireless internet) and the DSL modem are absolutely soaked. No wonder the internet had been running crappy all day! So, I screamed for Dave to get in there, and then called my friend, yeah he’s still yet to come down and check it out. LOSER! It ruined my TV (just a 20 inch that we had in the office to play games on or something), and water was going directly into a surge protector and dave was pretty scared to unplug it with the water in it.
Turns out it was a sprinkler, that they had set up RIGHT THERE! Are they trying to get us to move or something?!?! Geez! I am still so mad, how much they just don’t care, and the lack of respect. It could cause real problems for them, if they don’t get themselves figured out reallllllll soon. We pay them rent on time, and we normally don’t have any problems, and if we do, we’re quiet about it and try to take care of it ourselves, but when it involves our safety, and it continues to be water issues, they should really care a lot more. We havent signed any sort of contract or anything with them, and the house is their responsibility to take care of things-the owner of the house, even said that our friends upstairs are our landlords. yet they tell us to call the landlord all the time if we have a problem! LAME!!!
So this is why I feel like I live underwater. Fun huh? I can’t wait to hear back from the mortgage guy, to see if we can get approved for a house! I am SO desperate to have my OWN place! (and not tell them we’re leaving. LOL)
